Glossary of Basic Terms

Terms and definitions used in the LoopFuse OneView application and in the industry

Instead of organizing this glossary alphabetically (like a book), we have grouped related terms into sections. Psst… if you cannot find the term you are looking for press CTRL-F (Windows) or Command-F (Mac) to search the page.

General Terms

ISP (Internet Service Provider) : based on the Visitor’s IP address, LoopFuse OneView can determine the source of the Visitor’s internet connection (which may be a company like Coke, or may be an ISP like AOL).
Visitor : an anonymous person who has browsed your website at least once (and therefore has been assigned a LoopFuse Visitor ID which is stored in their browser as a Cookie) related :
Prospect : typically a Visitor who has submitted at least one Prospect Capture Form that included an email address (a Visitor then becomes a Prospect because he/she is no longer anonymous). Web Instrumentation

Cookie : A small piece of data that is stored inside a user’s web-browser and is typically used to identify a returning Visitor (Loopfuse uses a combination of 1st & 3rd party cookies)
Beacon : small snippet of JavaScript that is added to the bottom (“footer”) of every page on your website that enables us to track pageviews of your Visitors. This works EXACTLY like Google Analytics.
Visitor ID : (technical term) indicates the unique ID assigned when a new Visitor lands on your website or when a new Prospect is imported into LoopFuse OneView (via CSV or CRM import).
Prospect Capture Form : any webform on your site which sends the data captured directly to LoopFuse OneView (form must be “instrumented” with the required hidden fields and appropriate ACTION attribute pointing to LoopFuse server).
Lead Capture Form : discontinued term. See “Prospect Capture Form”
Registration : any submission of a Prospect Capture Form by a Visitor (including data from form fields). Registration records are also generated as the result of a CSV list import (or CRM import).

Email Campaigns

Open Rate : the number of Prospects who opened an email campaign / the number of recipients. Please note that Open Rates can be deceptive.
Click Rate : the number of Prospects who clicked at least one link in an email campaign / the number of recipients.
Suppression List : when sending an email campaign you can specify a list of Prospects who should not be emailed (even if they are in the Target list). You do NOT need to manage a suppression list for email bounces and unsubscribes/opt-outs (we do this automatically).
Bounce : when a recipient’s email server indicates that it will not attempt to deliver the email being sent. Bounces come in two flavors : hard & soft
Hard Bounce : hard bounces occur when there is some technical problem with the recipient’s address. If, for example, the email address just does not exist (such as foo@bar ) it would bounce. LoopFuse OneView automatically avoids sendiong emails to hard bouncers in future email campaigns.
Soft Bounce : soft bounces occur where there is some temporary technical problem with delivering the email (e.g. recipient has a full Inbox).
Deliverability : the percentage of your marketing emails that reach their intended recipients (i.e. avoiding spam filters).
Spam Filter : software installed by recipient’s ISP, mail provider, IT department, or email client which attempts to identify unsolicited emails. Spam filters on both the server-side (meaning the email never gets to your desktop) or client-side (your spam folder). The art of avoiding spam filters is called Deliverability. (Wikipedia)
Return Path : the email address (of the sender) that is notified when an outbound email “Bounces”. Configuring this in LoopFuse can improve Deliverability.
SPF Record : (technical term) when added to your domain’s DNS records will help increase deliverability as it advises the recipient’s email server that LoopFuse OneView is sending an email on your behalf.
Blacklist : To fight spam, commercial and non-profit organizations collect the email addresses, domains, and IP addresses of people/organizations suspected of spamming. These lists are updated constantly and are used by Spam Filters. (Wikipedia)

Flows

Flow (derivitive of “workflow”) : a customized sequence of steps that implement a lead nurturing program, drip campaign, or other desired behavior.
LeadFlow : discontinued term. see “Flow”
Activity Node : trigger defined actions inside of LoopFuse or your CRM, such as changing a Lead status in your CRM or automatically sending out an email campaign from the LoopFuse system.
Condition Node : act as ‘if…else’ statements in your workflow. They allow for conditional statements that can be placed along the lead’s workflow path.
Pause Node : will insert a pause in the workflow. Upon reaching a Pause Node, a lead will wait for a defined number of days and time of day, or a defined weekday and time of day to continue execution.
Retry Node : will continue to retry their parent node every hour for a defined number of days, or until the parent node’s criteria is met.

CRM

CRM : Customer Relationship Management software (we currently support Salesforce.com and Sugar CRM 5.2)
Lead : object inside your CRM that represents an expression of interest by a Prospect at a certain point in time. LoopFuse OneView will automatically create new Leads in your CRM based on your configuration. related :
Contact : object inside your CRM (usually resulting from a Lead) that represents an individual person associated with an Account.
Account : object inside your CRM (usually resulting from a Lead) that represents an organization or company.
Opportunity : object inside your CRM (usually resulting from a Lead) that represents a specific sales opportunity (includes data such as Amount, Stage, and Probability). LoopFuse OneView downloads all Opportunity records from your CRM to provide visibility and reporting.
VisualForce Plugin : (only available for LoopFuse OneView clients who use Salesforce.com) a plug-in that provides real-time visibility into the LoopFuse database from within the Salesforce.com Lead or Contact view.
LoopFuse Fields : standardized list of fields associated with a Prospect within OneView (e.g. first_name, last_name, email).
CRM Sync : on a recurring basis (currently daily) LoopFuse OneView will connect to your CRM’s webservice API to synchronize various pieces of data. Some of our CRM integration happens realtime (e.g. new Lead creation), but the rest is handled by this CRM sync process.
CRM API calls : LoopFuse OneView communicates with your CRM via the CRM provider’s webservice API. Some CRM providers limit the number of calls your account can accept.

Other

Prospect Scoring : a metric to determine the quality of a Prospect based on customized scoring rules
Lead Scoring : discontinued term. See “Prospect Scoring”
Landing Page Campaign : analytics focused on a particular URL of your website (e.g. landing page or high-value content)
Internet Campaign : LoopFuse redirect service (like bit.ly or tinyurl.com) to track internet advertising clicks such as banner ads, search engine adwords, etc.
CSV (comma separated value) : file-format typically used for import/export (including LoopFuse and CRMs). Natively supported by Excel (and other spreadsheet software).
Watch List : a personal list of Prospects and companies associated with a particular LoopFuse login. When any of these Prospects or companies perform some action (configurable), then an email notification is sent to the LoopFuse login.
Rollover Credits : your subscription comes with a number of credits / month. Some packages include a special “Rollover” feature which rolls unused credits over to the next month’s balance.
